From Stephen Coley (1776)

On the original parish record for William Cowley’s baptism his parents are listed as Stephen Coley and Jane.  There is no traceable marriage record for Stephen and Jane but there  are records for both the reading of the banns and for the marriage of Stephen Coley and Elizabeth Gilburd.  (In some records this surname is shown as Gilbert.)

From the date of William's baptism and the date of the marriage of Stephen and Elizabeth I believe that it is highly probable that they were William's parents.  It is possible that Elizabeth was Jane Elizabeth or Elizabeth Jane, or there could be an error in the parish record.  William and his brother Charles are both recorded as living in Black Rock in the 1841 census.
