Alfred James Bagnall (‘Alf’) was born in Ogley Hay, Staffordshire. He was apprenticed to a draper and clothier at the age of 14 and later opened his own business, ‘Bagnall & Co.’ with his brother, Albert. He died at his home in Evington, Leicester and is buried in the churchyard of St Denys’ Church, Evington.
